GRL Photos

These are a few photos of GRL guitars built over the last 15 years. Because all GRL Guitars are an expierment of some sort I will make a note of what it was on each.

Woodie Woodie

This is Woodie
Originally built in around 1991 and finished in solid black due to a few minor flaws in the wood that I decided would show. After a later update I decided the natural wood was just too nice to cover up. The woods are Hard Maple and Walnut. The fret board is 24.75 scale Ebony. It is fitted with a set of hot rail single coil (really Humbucker) pickups and an ARB style bridge and stop tail piece with no back rake on the neck. The experiment was mainly the combination of the Fender style pickups and layout with a Gibson scale length along with no back rake on the neck and an ARB style bridge. The pitfall was poor action and a fat neck; I tend to like an Ibanez or Fender style neck profile. I used the old style Gibson barrel profile which I have never liked. I have since corrected the action by letting the bridge into the body a little and re-profiling the neck as much as I could to the D shape (double action truss rod). It is finished in Nitro clear with a hint of amber tint. It now plays and sounds great and I think it looks much better without the solid color. Don't give up on a bad design, think of the old saying, if at first you don't succeed try, try again.
